Naomi Kathryn Thompson Pennington

Naomi Kathryn Thompson Pennington was born on April 3, 1956 to Orelee Thompson and Rose Thompson. In 1968 she dedicated her life to Christ at the age of 12 and was baptized. She attended Willow Manor in her early years and later graduated from Fremont High School in Oakland, CA. She also furthered her education at Laney and Holy Names colleges where she obtained a Masters degree in Education. Her passion was teaching. Naomi married LaVert L. Pennington Sr., on February 23, 1980 at Union Baptist Church in Oakland, CA. They shared 43 wonderful years together. Naomi had many careers in the field of education and health care. She worked as a medical assistant at Oak Knoll Hospital. While furthering her education at Laney College in 1988 she worked as a special needs educator at Havenscourt Middle School in Oakland for 22 years. She was often described as compassionate, patient and dedicated. Her passion for teaching and commitment to her students was evident and her ability to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment. In 2016 she became a night auditor and front desk clerk for Motel 6 and Homewood Suites where she balanced both accounting and front desk duties. A dedicated seamstress who had an exceptional talent for creating beautiful garments and mending with care. A passionate cheerleading coach, she inspired countless young athletes with her boundless energy and encouragement instilling a sense of discipline and teamwork in her role as a team mom. Naomi was the heart and soul of the community always present on the sideline offering unwavering support organizing events and fostering a sense of family among players and parents alike, her commitment in nurturing and uplifting, those around her will be deeply missed but fondly remembered, her smile laughter, kindness and creativity will live on in the hearts of everyone she touched. Naomi was preceded in death by her father Orelee Thompson, 2 brother’s Bobby Thompson and Durwyn Jones. Naomi is survived by her mother Rose Thompson, three sisters Dorothy McLimore, Jonnie Livings and Denise Thompson, one brother, Wiley Thompson, husband LaVert Pennington Sr., six children LaVert Jr., Amenia, Antonicia, Jessie, Bobby, Jonathan, grand kids, Kyle Pennington, DeVante Pennington, LaVert Pennington 3rd, Wade Henderson 3rd, Sky Pennington and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Her legacy of love and kindness endures. Thank you for the memories and love you shared. In our hearts you will live on.
